Cernobbio

Three services run on this lake and only one of them stops here. The ordinary boat, the battello, calls at Cernobbio as the first stop north of Como in both 2026 timetable editions. The fast service, the servizio rapido, does not: no SR-numbered run called at Cernobbio in either the summer or the autumn sheet. The car ferry, the traghetto, runs only between Bellagio, Cadenabbia, Varenna and Menaggio and has never come this far south. So the speed supplement that would cost you €1.50 on stretch 1 is money you cannot spend here, which is the good news: the slow boat is the only boat, and on a fifteen-minute hop the difference is meaningless anyway.

The fares are worth reading as a pattern rather than a price. Stretch 1 is where Como's own hinterland sits, and the day pass for it costs less than a single from Como to the centre of the lake.

The circular ticket is the one worth knowing about

The operator sells three circular tickets on this lake and one of them is built for exactly this shore: Como to Urio, €10.40 for an adult and €5.80 for a child aged 4 to 11. A circular allows you to get off between the two named piers and expires only when you land back where you started, which turns the western shore below Argegno into a single afternoon. Paid parking is run under concession by ABACO S.p.A., paid at the meters, which take coins, notes and cards, or through the EasyPark app. The blue bays cost €1.50 or €2.00 an hour depending on the zone, with a €0.50 minimum that buys thirty minutes, and the central high-rotation zone limits you to three hours whatever you pay. That limit is the thing to plan around: a lunch and a walk fits, a lunch, a walk and a boat trip does not.

Enforcement hours change with the season. From 1 October to 31 May the bays are payable daily from 09:00 to 19:00. From 1 June to 30 September the high-rotation zone runs daily from 09:00 to midnight, which catches every visitor who assumed an Italian meter stops at seven.

The bus is an urban ticket, which is unusual on this lake

Cernobbio is one of the seven comuni inside ASF Autolinee's Area Urbana, along with Como, Maslianico, Casnate con Bernate, San Fermo della Battaglia, Senna Comasco and Navedano. That means the ordinary Como town ticket covers the journey: €2.00, about $2.33, valid 90 minutes, and if you tap a contactless card on the validator the system caps your day at €5.00, about $5.83, once you have tapped three times at least 91 minutes apart on lines 1 to 12. Bought on board without tapping, the Area Urbana fare is €2.50. No paper receipt is issued for a tap, and a red light on the validator means you did not pay, whatever your bank app says later.

The long-distance line along this shore is C110, Como to Argegno to Menaggio to Colico, and it passes through. Note the three digits: ASF renumbered its lines, and a two-digit C10 will not match any timetable on the operator's site. Getting around Lake Como sets out the whole network.

Villa Bernasconi at Largo Campanini 2 was built for Davide Bernasconi, a silk industrialist, and it is a Liberty house, Italy's version of art nouveau, down to the silkworm and mulberry motifs worked into the ironwork and the facade. The comune runs it as a civic museum under the tag la casa che parla, the house that talks, and the visit is built around the building narrating itself rather than a collection of objects.

It opens Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday from 10:00 to 18:00. Admission is €10 full and €5 reduced, about $11.65 and $5.83, and it is free for under-14s, over-75s and residents of Cernobbio. Booking is obligatory: the museum states it in capitals on its own visit page, and turning up on a Saturday without one is the way this visit goes wrong. Telephone +39 031 3347209.

The town's information desk lives inside it

The Infopoint Cernobbio shares the address, Largo Alfredo Campanini 2, on +39 347 8818532 and infopoint@comune.cernobbio.co.it, and its published hours are daily 10:00 to 13:00 and 14:00 to 17:00, in force from 1 May 2026. In season a second desk opens on the lakefront in Piazza Risorgimento, daily 10:00 to 12:00. That is a better staffed pair of desks than most towns on this shore manage, and the lakefront one is thirty seconds from the pier.

The two buildings that carry the town's name in search results are not ordinary sights. One is a five-star hotel, which is why the top line of the tourist tax exists at all; the other is a nineteenth-century estate that the comune runs as an exhibition and congress centre, so what you can see there depends entirely on whether an event is on. What is left is genuinely pleasant and genuinely small. Piazza Risorgimento opens straight onto the water and the pier, the lakefront walk runs north out of it, the civic museum is four minutes away on foot, and the ridge behind the town climbs to 1,320 metres inside the comune's own boundary, which is where the walking is. Allow two hours for the town, four with the museum and lunch, and a full day only if you are walking up.

Where Cernobbio is located, in one paragraph

Cernobbio is located on the western shore of Lake Como immediately north of the city of Como, at the point where the built-up lakefront of the city gives way to the first of the villa shores. It is the first scheduled boat stop out of Piazza Cavour and the first town on the SS340 Regina heading north, which is why it functions as a suburb and a resort at the same time. Administratively it is its own comune in the province of Como, 12.28 square kilometres of it, and it is one of the seven comuni inside Como's urban transport area.

Swimming, and a price nobody publishes

Cernobbio has a lido and it is the one on this lake that has historically published a proper annual price list as a PDF, which is more than Bellagio, Varenna or Menaggio manage. We could not locate the 2026 edition of that list, only the 2024 and 2025 ones, so we print no admission price rather than quoting a rate that may have moved. What is worth knowing is the monitoring: in Lombardy bathing water is tested by the health authorities, the ATS, and not by the regional environment agency as it is in most of Italy. Eating: why no restaurant is named on this page

We name a restaurant only when a citable list or the venue's own site supports it, and for Cernobbio neither turned up in the sources this site is allowed to use. The comune publishes places, events, offices and a museum; it publishes no restaurant directory, no market day and no food calendar for the town. Cernobbio suits anyone who wants to sleep near Como without sleeping in it. You are fifteen minutes from the city by ordinary boat at $3.50 (€3.00), you are inside the urban bus area so the €2.00 ticket works, the parking tariff is published rather than guessed at, and the town has a staffed information desk seven days a week in season. For a first or last night before a flight from Milan it is a better base than anywhere further up the lake, and getting to the airports explains why the southern end of the western shore wins that argument.

It does not suit a traveller whose picture of Lake Como is the centre-lake triangle. No fast boat calls here, so every trip to Bellagio or Varenna starts with the slow run back into Como or a long ride on the ordinary boat, and the car ferry is an hour away by road. If the triangle is the holiday, sleep in it: Menaggio, Varenna and Bellagio are the towns the ferry actually serves.

If we had one afternoon here, we would book the museum for a Friday or a Monday, when half the lake's villas are shut, walk the lakefront, and take the ordinary boat back into Como rather than fight the three-hour parking limit.
