Tremezzo, Italy

The car ferry touches this comune at Cadenabbia and nowhere else. It runs Cadenabbia to Bellagio to Menaggio to Varenna, which is the whole vehicle network on Lake Como, and the operator lists the stop twice, as Cadenabbia and Cadenabbia (Traghetto), because the ramp is separate. Published journey times from there on the autumn weekday sheet, valid 5 October to 1 November 2026: Cadenabbia to Bellagio 10 minutes, Cadenabbia to Varenna 30 minutes, with the first departure to Bellagio at 05:50 and the last at 22:55.

On that same autumn sheet the Cadenabbia row in the passenger timetable carries no scheduled boat calls at all, only the operator's note that the pier is 900 m on foot along the lakefront from the garden entrance. So the pier that takes cars is, on the autumn record, not a passenger pier. The village pier at Tremezzo is the one with ordinary and fast passenger calls, and the timetable's note there gives 450 m on foot under the Tremezzo porticoes to the same gates. If you are arriving without a vehicle, Tremezzo is the stop.

Lenno is the other working pier, with calls throughout the day, and it is where the walk to the peninsula villa begins: about a kilometre, roughly 25 minutes, part of it uphill, or a paid taxi boat. Isola Comacina had three calls out and three back on the autumn sheet, at 10:45, 13:14 and 16:40, returning 12:28, 14:57 and 17:28. Campo had two, at 11:13 and 17:22. Villa Carlotta and Azzano had none, which makes them seasonal stops rather than absent ones.

The operator publishes no per-pier breakdown of which calls are ordinary ships and which are fast runs; the timetable grids mix them. Assume the fast service touches only the main stops, and check the run number on the sheet rather than the pier.

What the crossings cost

Fares are read off the operator's Complete Chart of Stretch: every pair of piers carries a number from 1 to 8, and the number is looked up in one table.

Two rules to hold on to. Buying on board at a pier whose ticket office is open costs a fixed €1 extra per passenger, per bag and per vehicle. And passengers riding inside a vehicle on the car ferry pay the ordinary passenger fare of stretch 3, on top of the vehicle price.

A vehicle weight limit of ten tonnes has been in force since a notice of 6 August 2026 because of low water levels, down from the standing limit of forty. How the fares, the passes and the timetable editions fit together is on the Lake Como ferry guide.

Tremezzina publishes no ZTL. Its topic index carries Parcheggi, urban transport, police, boats and moorings, and a road variant, and there is no restricted-zone entry anywhere in it; its mobility service page returns no items and no ZTL regolamento appears among its normative acts. On the published record, the shore holding the two most visited garden estates on the lake is the only one of the five western-shore towns a visitor drives to without an access restriction. Como, Bellagio, Varenna and Menaggio all have one, each written differently.

What the comune does not publish is a parking tariff: no hourly rate, no daily rate, no blue-zone price, no park-and-ride figure and no concessionaire page, where Como and Lecco both publish full schedules. Its Parcheggi topic carries a form, a regulation on parking spaces and news items, and nothing priced.

What it does state is where the car parks are. Its own page for the peninsula villa names the nearest as Parcheggio Mercato in Via Comoedia, formerly Via degli Artigiani, at Lenno, describes it as paid, adds further parking in Via Diaz and Via Silvio Pellico, and warns in plain terms of heavy traffic and difficulty parking at weekends and in summer. A municipal news item of 8 August 2025 records a new car park in Via Volta at Lenno with 19 car spaces and three motorcycle spaces, and another of 23 May 2025 records consolidation works on the Tremezzo car park. That is the whole official picture: capacity is documented, price is not.

The alternative with a published price is the bus. ASF line C110 runs the shore from Como through Argegno, Colonno, Sala Comacina, Ossuccio, Lenno, Tremezzo and Cadenabbia to Menaggio and on to Colico, and a contactless tap charges a flat $5.71 (€4.90) as far as Menaggio with no on-board surcharge. The two estates

Villa Carlotta, at Via Regina 2 in Tremezzo, is the comune's principal sight: built at the end of the seventeenth century for the marchese Giorgio II Clerici, renamed after Princess Carlotta in 1847, passed to the State after the First World War and run since 1927 by a dedicated ente morale. It works as a museum and a botanical garden and opens daily 10:00 to 17:00. Villa del Balbianello, at Lenno, was built for Cardinal Angelo Maria Durini at the end of the eighteenth century on the tip of the Dosso di Lavedo peninsula and has belonged to the Fondo per l'Ambiente Italiano since 1988. Online booking is compulsory. It is about 25 minutes on foot from the Lenno pier, roughly a kilometre and part of it uphill, or a paid taxi boat that the foundation does not run and does not price. The hillside, the island and the museums

Above Ossuccio stands the Sacro Monte, a UNESCO World Heritage site since 2003, with fourteen chapels and around 230 statues climbing to the sanctuary. Below it, Isola Comacina is the lake's only island, reached from the Ossuccio side on the three-call-a-day landing. Its tickets run from $4.66 (€4) for the island alone to $10.49 (€9) for the integrated ticket with the comune's landscape museum, and its restaurant, bar and toilets were closed for an indefinite period at this check, which is worth knowing before you commit half a day to it.

The comune runs two small museums. The Museo del Paesaggio del Lago di Como is at Via Statale 4835 in Tremezzo, on +39 0344 533023, open Thursday to Sunday 10:00 to 12:00 and 14:00 to 18:00. The Antiquarium named for Luigi Mario Belloni and Mariuccia Zecchinelli is at Via Giuseppe Somalvico in Ossuccio, on +39 0344 56369, Thursday to Sunday 11:00 to 17:00.

The long walk on this shore is the Greenway del Lago: a free waymarked route of 11.2 kilometres in seven stages, published at three and a half hours, climbing 221 m and descending 257 m, starting at Colonno just south of the comune and running through these villages.

The Info Point, and the festival

The comune's own Ufficio Turismo is at Via Statale 5054 in Tremezzo, on +39 0344 40493 and turismo@comune.tremezzina.co.it. Its season runs 1 April to 1 November 2026, open Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday 10:00 to 13:00 and 14:30 to 17:30, closed Tuesdays. Outside those dates there is no staffed desk in the comune.

The comune's oldest festival, documented since the 1600s, is the Sagra di San Giovanni on and around the island, and its 2026 programme ran on 24, 27 and 28 June, with the re-enactment of the burning of the island and the fireworks from floating rafts on Saturday 27 June at 22:30, not on the 24th as the usual shorthand claims. Eating and swimming: two negative findings

This page names no restaurant. Naming one requires a citable list, meaning Slow Food, Michelin or Gambero Rosso, or the venue's own site, with the source and its year printed beside the name, and we hold neither for this shore at this check. The coperto is unregulated: Italian law requires it on the menu, but no comune, regional act or trade body publishes a rate or a ceiling for this lake.

On swimming, the Lido di Lenno is not a boat stop and no official page publishes its season, hours or price. Water quality on this shore is monitored by ATS Insubria, the health authority, from April to September, with results on the Ministry of Health's Portale Acque; ARPA Lombardia does not run those assessments. It suits you if

You are driving, and you want the two big garden estates within a few minutes of your room. No restricted zone is published anywhere in this comune, which makes it the only one of the five western-shore towns a visitor drives to that you can enter without a permit, and the car ferry at Cadenabbia puts the eastern shore ten minutes away. It also suits walkers: the Greenway runs through these villages, the Sacro Monte climbs behind Ossuccio, and the shore road links five old centres that each keep their own square.

And it suits anyone who would rather sleep beside the sights than commute to them. From Tremezzo the garden gates are 450 metres under the porticoes; from the promontory opposite they are a boat ride and a walk.

It does not suit you if

You are relying on the boat for everything. Four of the seven piers here run a token service or none at all, the pier that takes cars had no scheduled passenger calls on the autumn sheet, and one landing described on an official page as opening in July 2026 was still written in the future tense in September. Build a day around Tremezzo or Lenno, not around the smaller stops.

It also does not suit anyone who needs the comune to answer questions. It publishes no parking price, no cap on the number of nights its tourist tax runs to, and two contradictory seasons for that tax on the same page. Its Info Point closes for five months of the year. Those are answers you get by telephoning the Ufficio Tributi rather than by reading a website, and that is a real difference from Como, which publishes almost everything.
