Villa Balbianello Tickets 2026: Prices, Booking and the Three Ways In

The summary header near the top of the page prints Ticket prices Adults €22 - Children €12. The detailed ticket section further down the same page prints €15 adult and €11 reduced for the park, and €25 adult and €17 reduced for villa and park. Those are not two ways of saying the same thing: the header's €22 sits between the two real prices and matches neither.

This guide prints the detailed section throughout, because it is the more specific of the two, it distinguishes the two products FAI actually sells, and it carries the whole reduction ladder that the header does not. It is worth knowing the header exists, though, because a visitor who has read only the top of the page will arrive expecting €22 and be quoted either €15 or €25 depending on which ticket they ask for. Take a screenshot of the detailed section before you travel, and check the price again in the booking flow, which is the figure that actually binds.

Where else the price moves

FAI attaches one written caveat to its own numbers: in case of special events, the price may vary. It publishes no list of which events those are and no alternative price, so the honest reading is that the booking screen is the only figure to trust on a given date. The other movement is the platform layer: the guided visit card was listed at $40.72 for the access the villa sells at $29.10, which is what a free cancellation and a resale margin cost here.

FAI states plainly that booking is required, at villadelbalbianello.it. There is no walk-up ticket described anywhere on the official pages, and private or group visits are handled only by email, at booking.balbianello@fondoambiente.it. So the first thing to settle is not which boat but which date, because the date sets everything else.

The rule that follows catches almost everyone. On the villa and park ticket, the time you select is the time of access to the property, not the start of your tour. The actual tour time is given to you at the ticket office when the ticket is validated, and FAI states a maximum wait of 60 minutes.

Tours run in groups of a maximum of 16, and a larger booking is split into separate groups with at least fifteen minutes between them, which is where the wait comes from.

What that means for the rest of the day

Add ninety minutes to whatever you assumed. A 10:00 access time can put your 50-minute tour at 11:00, ending near midday, before you have walked back down to Lenno. If the next thing in the day is a scheduled departure, look at the timetable and take the run after the one you first picked.

On the park ticket none of this applies, because there is nothing to be assigned: you walk in and walk round.

Both footpaths start from Lenno and both are published by FAI with a distance and a time. The taxi boat is the third option and is the one FAI neither runs nor prices: the service is chargeable, reservation-only, not managed by FAI, and the only operator FAI names for it is Bellagio Boat Service from the Lido di Lenno. That Lido, worth knowing, is not a Navigazione landing stage at all, so no scheduled boat calls there.

Neither footpath suits a stroller or a visitor with mobility difficulties, and FAI says so. What it offers instead is specific: a visitor with reduced mobility may drive to the ticket office at the historic park's road entrance if they notify in advance, and the companion is then asked to move the car to the public car park. The taxi boat fare nobody publishes

FAI publishes no figure for the taxi boat because it is not FAI's service, and the operator's own pricing is by tour rather than by transfer. That is a real gap: the one leg of this visit that most guides describe as essential is the only one with no published price on either side. Budget for it as a private charter rather than as a fare, or take the path.

The header line says open from March to January every day except Monday and Wednesday, 10:00 to 18:00. Underneath it the page then names the exceptions, and the exceptions are most of the shoulder season.

Two dates in that table are worth planning around rather than avoiding. 21 and 22 March are FAI Days, when the trust opens its properties on a different footing, and 6 April and 1 June are published as special openings on days the villa would ordinarily be shut. Beyond 6 January 2027 nothing is published: the March 2027 pattern is normally republished over the winter, so a spring 2027 visit is bookable later rather than now.

The two closed days are the whole crowd problem

Closing Monday and Wednesday in high season concentrates the week into five days, and the two days after a closure carry it. If your dates allow, take a Thursday or a Friday at the 10:00 opening rather than a Tuesday, and read the closure across the rest of your day: Villa Carlotta twenty minutes up the same shore is open every day of its own season, so a Balbianello Monday is a Carlotta Monday.

- There is no café. The bookshop sells water, soft drinks and small snacks and that is the whole catering offer on the property. Eat in Lenno before you walk up. - There is no luggage storage. Bags may be left outside the ticket offices in an area FAI describes as unattended, which is not the same as left safely. Arriving with a suitcase between two hotels is the wrong day for this villa. - Dogs are welcome in the garden on a leash at all times, and not inside the house, where only guide dogs and certified assistance dogs are allowed. - Strollers do not go up the paths. Baby carriers can be borrowed free of charge and staff will show you where a stroller can be parked, which is the practical answer for a family arriving on foot.

Access inside the property, in FAI's own detail

This is the most detailed access statement any villa on this lake publishes, and it is worth reading before booking rather than after. The villa has six levels plus the Durini Loggia, the Segrè Loggia and the Dosso di Lavedo. A lift with a cabin that comfortably takes a wheelchair serves three of the six.

A threshold must be stepped over to enter the villa itself. The Durini Loggia is reached by a staircase; the Segrè Loggia has no steps. Accessible restrooms are inside the Segrè Loggia and next to the dock, all internal park paths have slopes and are partly gravel, benches are placed through the park and folding chairs are available inside the villa.

Visitors using a wheelchair are asked to contact the site in advance. The accessibility page compares this with what the other villas state, which in most cases is nothing.

Take the 10:00 opening. From the centre-lake triangle the crossings are short, band 3 at $6.41 (€5.50) one way or $20.40 (€17.50) for a day pass that rides Bellagio, Varenna, Menaggio and Tremezzo all day, so a morning at Balbianello and an afternoon at Villa Carlotta twenty minutes up the shore is a genuinely comfortable day rather than a rush. Both are on the map with their gate prices.

If the date you want is a Monday or a Wednesday, the villa is shut and no reseller can change that. The useful alternatives on the same shore are Villa Carlotta, open every day of its own season, and the Greenway del Lago di Como, which passes through Lenno and costs nothing.
